BOX OFFICE: ‘Chennai Express’ On The Brink of Rs 2 Billion!

MUMBAI: Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ seems to be scaling new peaks, with each new day bringing unbelievable box office cheer for the makers: director Rohit Shetty and producers UTV Motion Pictures and SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

‘Chennai Express’, which also stars Deepika Padukone, has had a unmatchable dream run at the box office, ever since it released on Eid, 9 August, 2013. This week alone has created such buzz at the box office, something that was previously unheard of in the second week.

As reported, ‘Chennai Express’ raked in Rs 37.5 million (Rs 3.75 crore) net on Monday, while on Tuesday, the figures shot up to nearly double: at Rs 70.6 million (Rs 7.06 crore) net. Wednesday saw figures in the range of approximately Rs 44.6 million (Rs 4.46 crore) net.

With the weekend looming large, one can only expect figures to skyrocket once again, going by the trend.

The 13 day total- Rs 194.92 crore (inclusive of paid previews)

As reported, ‘Chennai Express’ opened with a bang, with first weekend figures as follows: Rs 330 million (Rs 33 crore) net on its very first day (Friday, 9 August). Day 2 and Day 3 saw collections soar to about Rs 280 million (Rs 28 crore) net and Rs 325 million (Rs 32.5 crore) net respectively. Including paid previews, the film had already crossed the Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore) mark by the opening weekend.
