Box Office: Comedy flick Faltu opens better than Game at theaters

MUMBAI: The World Cup fever notwithstanding, Vashu Bhagnani’s comedy flick has opened well at theaters as compared to the action adventure Game.
Average occupancy levels for Faltu in multiplexes was around 60-65 per cent on Friday, whereas that of Game were a mere 10-15 per cent. With low level of promotions and the India – Sri Lanka World Cup final to compete with on Saturday, Game’s run at the box office looks bleak.
The release of these two films comes at a time when multiplexes are planning to screen the India – Sri Lanka World Cup 2011 final match across their key properties. This in turn will mean zilch footfalls for Faltu and Game on Saturday across the country. Sunday is also unlikely to work wonders for the fate of the movies. Additionally producer Vashu Bhagnani has also released Faltu simultaneously on the internet, which may affect the theatrical business to an extent.
Faltu stars Ritiesh Deshmukh and Jaccky Bhagnani, the multi-starrer Game directed by Abhinay Deo is led by Abhishek Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Shergill and Sarah-Jane Dias.

The Indian cricket team’s presence in the World Cup till the very end has cost the movie business dearly. Next week (8 April) will see the release of Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor starrer Thank You. Incidentally the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2011 matches are slated to start on that very day! With the World Cup 2011 at its fag end, it now remains to be seen, how the box office reacts to IPL 2011!
