Box Office: Golmaal 3 takes good opening; Action Replayy poor

UPDATED

MUMBAI: Of the two Diwali releases – Golmaal 3 and Action Replayy – the former has had a better opening than the latter at the box office.

Since the movies released on the day of Diwali, collections were not as high as they otherwise would have been. However, both movies are expected to pick up over Saturday and Sunday. While Golmaal 3 took a decent start at the box office with approximately Rs 80 million (Rs 8 crore), Action Replayy saw a poor opening with net collections of approximately Rs 27.5 million (Rs 2.75 crore) on Friday.

The opening of Action Replayy is the lowest ever for an Akshay Kumar film. The opening Friday collections of Akshay’s last three releases have been much better namely – Khatta Meeta – Rs 650 million (Rs 6.50 crore), Housefull – Rs 90 million (Rs 9 crore) and De Dana Dan – Rs 60 million (Rs 6 crore).

Incidentally, last Diwali also saw Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn’s films clashing at the box office. Last year Akshay’s Blue and Devgn’s All The Best released during Diwali. While Blue’s net collections on its opening Friday were Rs 66 million (Rs 6.60 crore), All The Best’s opening was poor with Rs 20 million (Rs 2 crore).

It now remains to be seen how Golmaal 3 and Action Replayy fare over the weekend.

Stay tuned for updates.
