Box Office: Guzaarish nets Rs 150 million; Harry Potter Rs 80 million in opening weekend

MUMBAI: Guzaarish starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has done net business of approximately Rs 150 million (Rs 15 crore) in its opening weekend in India.
 
The movie opened with approx Rs 35 million (Rs 3.5 crore) on Friday and picked up slightly on Saturday and Sunday with collections of Rs 47.50 million (Rs 4.75 crore) and Rs 67.50 million (Rs 6.75 crore) respectively.
 
While the opening of the movie was below expectations, with the positive word of mouth and reviews it was expected that Guzaarish would pick up substantially over the weekend. However, that failed to happen.
 
On the other hand, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 took in net collections of approximately Rs 80 million (Rs 8 crore) in the opening weekend in India. As was reported earlier by Businessofcinema.com, the movie released in English, Hindi, Tamil & Telugu languages with approximately Rs 531 prints.
 
According to Warner Bros Pictures India, this is the second biggest opening weekend of all time for a WB film beating the last Harry Potter by almost seven per cent. It is also the second biggest opening weekend of 2010 for a WB film beating Christopher Nolan’s Inception by 45 per cent and the third biggest opening weekend of 2010 for a Hollywood film beating Sony Pictures’ Salt by 40 per cent.
