Box Office: Jaane Tu – Rs 170 million; Love Story Rs 110 million

Mumbai: The two much touted releases of the year – Love Story 2050 and Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na hit screens last Friday. The box office verdict is now out.

The all India performance of the two movies over the weekend – 4 to 6 July – clearly show that Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na has managed to hit the bull’s eye as far as the all India gross box office figures are concerned.

While Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na has grossed approximately Rs 170 million (Rs 17 crores) on 371 prints (including 89 digital screens); Love Story 2050 has grossed approximately Rs 110 million (Rs 11 crores) on 722 prints (including 355 digital screens).

The figure above show that Jaane Tu… has managed to garner at the box office on lesser prints than Love Story 2050.

While Jaane Tu… opened to packed houses (ranging from 80 – 100 per cent occupancy) across India, the response to Love Story 2050 hasn’t been as great as expected. The movie opened to between 30 – 60 per cent occupancy.

Debutant actor Imran Khan writes on Aamir Khan’s blog – "Thank You all so much for the completely overwhelming opening weekend. I swear, I had never expected our film to open this big. We were always happy with the film, we were pretty confident that people would like our film, but to have the film open to near 100 percent collections was… insanity."

Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na has been directed by Abbas Tyrewala and stars Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza in the lead. It has been produced by Aamir Khan Productions and presented by PVR Pictures. Love Story 2050 directed by Harry Baweja stars Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra. It has been presented by Adlabs.

Stay tuned for more updates as numbers from the overseas flow in.
