Box Office: Kidnap nets Rs 50 mn in India on opening day

Mumbai: This week’s release Kidnap, starring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Minisha Lamba has garnered a net collection of Rs 50 million (Rs 5 crores) all over India, what with shows running houseful due to Eid and Gandhi Jayanti holiday on 2 October.

The film opened to an approximately 70 – 75 percent occupancy across all India. But Friday morning saw a drastic drop in the collections and the audiences in theatres.

Since Kidnap hasn’t received rave reviews, it remains to be seen how the movie will fare at the box office on Saturday and Sunday. However buzz is that Kidnap has managed to take a better opening than Drona across all theatres.

On Thursday, the net collection for Kidnap in Bombay and Thane was approximately Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore) and the net collection in the entire Bombay circuit was Rs 20 million (Rs crores).

Kidnap released in Pakistan too, on 1 October on the occasion of Eid with 11 prints.

The movie was also released in UK on 1 October. In two days the film garnered £110,000. By Sunday, the UK business is estimated to be £250,000.
