Box Office: The Social Network grosses Rs 23.9 million in India

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures’ The Social Network, which is based on Facebook.com’s founder Mark Zuckerberg, garnered Rs 23.9 million (Rs 2.39 crore) over the first release weekend in India. The film released with 91 prints on 12 November.

"This is one of those very rare films that are appreciated by both audiences and critics. We were extremely confident of strong word of mouth following its debut as the opening film at the Mumbai Film Festival in October. Post the overwhelming reception at the festival, our marketing strategy was to make it an unmissable film. The film, which is already being touted as a frontrunner at the Academy Awards next year, has strong potential for repeat viewing as well," said Sony Pictures India MD Kercy Daruwala.

Sony Pictures India’s next releases are Dwayne Johnson-starrer Faster and Inside Job (limited release) on 10 December and and Johnny Depp-Angelina Jolie starrer The Tourist on 31 December.
