Mr. Holmes Trailer: Will Ian McKellen Surpass Robert Downey Jr. And Benedict Cumberbatch?

Mr-HolmesThe official trailer of Mr. Holmes starring Ian McKellen, best known for his role as Gandalf in Lord of the Rings series is finally out. Not only does the trailer look class apart, but also McKellen’s portrayal of Sherlock Holmes gives us reason to believe that it is going to be something Sherlock fans have never seen before.

Mr. Holmes will show the world famous detective Sherlock in his final stages of life where he is in old age and decides to visit his seaside farmhouse far away from the hectic life at Baker Street. His housekeeper and her son Roger who is a delight from what we saw in the trailer accompany him. Unlike his usual arrogant self, old aged Sherlock seems gentle and soft spoken.

The trailer shows that Mr. Holmes has one last conquest to set some things right. When asked about his heroism and the tales of his past cases, Holmes responds by calling them ‘an embellishment of Dr. Watson’. As quoted from the trailer, Sherlock Holmes states, “If I ever write a story myself it would be to correct the million misconceptions created by his imaginative license.”

After watching endless movies and series portraying the young Sherlock Holmes and the different mindboggling cases solved by him, viewers are in for a treat as Mr. Holmes releasing this year has a different take on the character altogether. Anticipation is definitely on the rise after watching the promising trailer.

Fans have already started taking sides as to which actor they like the most acting as Sherlock Holmes. Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch have set a certain benchmark with their portrayal of the character. However, when a critically acclaimed actor like Ian McKellen is in question, we think he would do a pretty great job! Set to release on July 17, 2015 Mr. Holmes is directed by Bill Condon.
