EMI Music taps Boosey & Hawkes to represent legendary Blue Note label for synch exploitation

Mumbai: EMI Music has tapped Boosey & Hawkes Music Publishing to represent legendary jazz imprint Blue Note Records for synchronization of its master recordings on a global basis. EMI appointed Boosey & Hawkes for its expertise in jazz repertoire as Blue Note celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.

Founded in 1939, Blue Note has become one of the definitive jazz labels boasting a catalogue of classic recordings and works by many of the true giants of the genre, including legends , John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, Dexter Gordon and Miles Davis as well as living legend Cassandra Wilson.

Boosey & Hawkes, is perhaps best known for being the largest specialist classical music publishing company in the world. In addition to Boosey & Hawkes’ catalogue of classical music copyrights, including the works of distinguished composers like Stravinsky, Bartók, Copland, Britten, Prokofieff, Strauss and Rachmaninoff among many others, the company also has a formidable existing Jazz roster, including works by the likes of Charles Mingus, Wynton Marsalis, Andrew Hill, Paquito D’Rivera and Chick Corea.

Under this new agreement, Boosey & Hawkes can now offer master recording sourcing and clearance for many of their existing Jazz copyrights, which enables them to provide combined publishing and master synch solutions.
