High Point Media launches home entertainment label

MUMBAI: Carey Fitzgerald’s London-based High Point Media Group has advanced into UK distribution with the launch of High Point Home Entertainment.

The new DVD label specialising in World Cinema and feature-length documentaries, will kick off with the first release on 13 June of Hanro Smitsman’s acclaimed debut feature, Skin, starring Emmy nominated Robert de Hoog (War Horse, Dusk) as a troubled youth drawn into the emerging Skinhead movement of the late 1970s. Later this year will see the release of Kay Mellor’s romance, A Passionate Woman, starring Billie Piper and Sue Johnston to tie in with the tour of the play from which it was adapted. While the label has been set up initially to cater for the home entertainment market, plans are ahead to expand, eventually, into all rights, including theatrical.

The move into UK distribution is combined further with a restructuring of High Point’s core management team, including the appointments of Ronald de Neef as Non Executive Chairman and Elisar Cabrera as Board Director, who will also head up High Point Home Entertainment.

High Point director of sales and marketing Elisar Cabrera’s diverse career has covered virtually every aspect of the film, television and media business, from programming for the first Raindance Film Festival, through directing his own low budget films, to presenting the online review show, Those Video Guys, nominated for the Indie Intertube Best of 2010 Awards. In addition to overseeing the new label, Elisar will also be bringing his wide experience to bear in developing new and emerging distribution platforms for High Point to exploit.

In the same move, Cabrera is appointed to High Point’s Board of Directors, where he joins managing director Carey Fitzgerald, and director Julie Delaney.

“Elisar is an enormously resourceful member of the team, always with his finger on the pulse of technical and creative innovation. High Point Home Entertainment is a natural progression for us, so it’s fitting that someone so in tune with High Point’s DNA is at its head,” added Fitzgerald.

The company also announced that Ronald de Neef is made non-executive chairman.

Fitzgerald said, “Ronald’s formidable experience and skill underpin so much of what High Point has become today, and his position as Non-Executive Chair is fitting confirmation of this.”

“High Point is built upon the expertise and dedication of its fantastic team and I am so proud to see us entering our third decade with so much to shout about,” Fitzgerald added.
