J Lo to exec produce miniseries

MUMBAI: Actor Jennifer Lopez has partnered with Univision to executive produce La Flor Palida, a five-hour musical drama which begins shooting in Mexico City in the next three weeks followed by a premiere in late May.

Directed by Leon Ichaso and based on a script by Jimena Romero, the project is the first of its kind as a Spanish-language miniseries and will feature music from Lopez’s just-released Spanish CD Como Ama una Mujer, reports www.Hollywood.tv founder Sheeraz Hasan.

Although Lopez will not be starring in the miniseries, she will appear at the end of each episode performing a song from Como Ama una Mujer.

Sony Music’s Epic label and Univision have teamed up to fund the project, which will be produced by Lopez’s Nuyorican production company, which she runs with manager Simon Fields.

Following the airing of La Flor Palida on Univision, Sony is expected to release the miniseries in the fall as part of a deluxe CD/DVD package featuring an updated copy of Como Ama una Mujer, adds Hasan.

The miniseries tells the story of a movie star-singer named Sofia Marquez who is constantly in the public eye. “She gets caught in a scandal and ends up running from her boyfriend and meeting up with an old friend from her past,” says Fields. Marquez discovers that her old friend, a fellow singer named Diego, has long had a soft spot in his heart for her. “There are some autobiographical elements,” Fields adds.
