Shawn Levy to direct DreamWorks Studios’ Real Steel

MUMBAI: Shawn Levy will direct the adventure film Real Steel for Steven Spielberg and Anil Ambani’s DreamWorks Studios.

While John Gatins is writing the latest draft of the script, Levy will also serve in a producing capacity.

Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford are producing. Steven Spielberg will executive produce, along with ImageMovers’ Jack Rapke, Robert Zemeckis, and Steve Starkey.

In Real Steel, which is set in the near-future when human boxing has been outlawed and replaced by a popular, new division, Robot Boxing, a father and his estranged teenage son reconnect to train an extraordinary fighter.

"I’m thrilled to be working with Shawn on this project. He’s a master of combining heart and human stories with fantastic visuals. I’m sure that in his capable hands, Real Steel will be a film that touches and excites all audiences," said DreamWorks CEO and co-chair Stacey Snider.

"Steven’s passion for this project was absolutely infectious and I’m so excited to bring this story to life. In a movie filled with these mechanical warriors, at its core ‘Real Steel’ is an incredibly human story," said Levy.

Levy has directed Night at the Museum and its sequel apart from films like Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther, Big Fat Liar and Just Married. He also directed and produced the upcoming film Date Night, starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell.
