Thomson NexGuard integrated in Dolby server

MUMBAI: Thomson announced Dolby Laboratories Inc offers the option of NexGuard, Thomson’s content security solution suite, in its digital cinema servers.

NexGuard watermarking is intended to prevent illegal recordings of digital cinema content, as required by the Digital Cinema Initiative’s (DCI) V1.1 specifications. This partnership enables Dolby to embed NexGuard’s video forensic watermarking solution in its digital cinema server, which can replay DCI compliant 2D and 3D digital cinema images. Thomson and Dolby have been working together since 2006.

Thomson’s Software and Technology Solutions business, within the technology division chief technology officer, Jian Zhao stated, “Thomson is at the forefront of digital content security innovation and provides piracy-dissuasion solutions for all release windows. Dolby is a global leader in media ecosystems, and we are pleased to partner with them to offer studios a security solution for all digital cinema screens, including 3D theaters.”

NexGuard is the most broadly applicable forensic watermarking solution in the digital entertainment landscape. Its implementation for digital cinema exceeds DCI specifications by providing resistance to illegal camcorder capture and compression, as well as offering the flexibility to embed more than the required amount of identification information.

Dolby Laboratories, Vice President, Cinema, John Iles added, “Dolby is dedicated to protecting the studios’ intellectual property while providing a superior digital cinema experience to movie-goers. By working closely with a leader in video technologies such as Thomson, Dolby is able to provide state of the art security across its digital cinema systems.”

Thomson’s NexGuard has been designed to serve the media, entertainment and communication industries, and delivers the wide-ranging line of products to track and secure digital audiovisual content throughout production, post-production, distribution and exhibition.
