MUMBAI: Actor Mark Wahlberg has been signed to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller The Happening.
The movie is being co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s UTV Motion Pictures and 20th Century Fox. The movie is scheduled to release on 13 June, 2008.
According to media reports, Wahlberg will play the father of a family on the run from an apocalyptic threat to humanity. Shyamalan wrote the original screenplay and will produce with Sam Mercer and Barry Mendel. The movie is scheduled to go on the floors in August this year.
While 20th Century Fox will be distributing the movie worldwide, in India, it will be released by UTV.
The Happening will be made on a budget of $57 million, half of which will be put in by UTV.
