Warner Bros. Consumer Products grants Batman license to Sakar International

MUMBAI: Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) has awarded a license to Sakar International to produce a diverse range of youth electronics merchandise under the Batman brand, based on the DC Comics character.

Products incorporating the bat-imagery associated with the Caped Crusader will range from digital cameras to walkie talkies and gaming accessories.

The first items developed under the license are expected to be released for the 2010 back-to-school season with SRPs from $9.99 to $24.99. This will be the second collaboration between the two companies following an earlier WBCP license under which Sakar created products in conjunction with the 2008 live action film, Speed Racer, based on the classic anime series.

"With the ever-increasing worldwide popularity of Batman, companies like Sakar continue to find new and imaginative ways to create successful products for the brand. With feature films, television, video games, action figures and other incarnations continually breathing new life into the franchise, we expect that Sakar’s new line of youth electronics will find a ready audience of Batman fans," said WBCP executive vice president, domestic licensing & worldwide marketing Karen McTier.

"Everybody loves a hero in any form, and Batman is among the best loved of the breed. This license gives us the opportunity to combine the immediately recognizable Batman iconography with our experience in branded youth electronics to deliver a fresh product lineup with good play value as well as broad built-in appeal," said Sakar vice president of licensing Liza Abrams.
