Will Ferrell launches new website

MUMBAI: Actor Will Ferrell and Gary Sanchez Productions have together launched their own comedy video website christened FunnyOrDie.com.

The beta release of the website debuted last Thursday, and a two-minute video clip called The Landlord, which features Ferrell and writer-director Adam McKay, has already generated more than 1.5 million hits, according to www.Hollywood.tv founder  Sheeraz Hasan.

The clip stars Ferrell as an apartment dweller forced to take on his angry landlord, played by McKay’s young daughter. The FunnyOrDie website also has user-generated comedy videos which allow visitors to upload their clips and  relies on viewers’ ratings to determine whether a clip remains online or is cast into the “Crypt” along with other unfunny bits that died in front of an Internet audience, says a release.

Comedy videos starring name Hollywood stars will make regular appearances in the “featured” section of the FunnyOrDie website, but “the meat and cabbage of the site will be the real people,” says McKay.

The Gary Sanchez Productions company has been developing features with Paramount Vantage through a first-look deal and has also recently landed a pilot at the HBO cable television network, the release adds.
