Madhuri releases music of Traffic Signal

MUMBAI: The music of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Traffic Signal, which is being produced by Percept Picture Company (PPC) was launched by Madhuri Dixit Nene on 10 January. Music director of Traffic Signal Shamir Tandon has previously worked with Bhandarkar on the music of Page 3 and Corporate.

Traffic Signal music album marks the return of Bhupindar Singh after more than a decade in Bollywood. At the music launch Tandon said, “Making music for a realistic film-maker like Madhur Bhandarkar was a unique experience because the film demanded earthy and non glamourised music. The street dance Lavni song had all live instruments with no electronic to sound as roadside as possible –and even detuned deliberately in some cases.”

He further added, “Page 3’s song ‘Kitne Ajeeb’ was an integral part of the film, whereas Corporate had ‘Lamha Lamha’, similarly Traffic Signal has a theme song ‘Yehi Zindagi Hai To Kya Zindagi Hai’. But this time I have chosen Hariharan to sing the song and not Asha Bhosle.”

Tandon has also given a break to a few new voices like Yogita Pathak, Sangeet Haldipur and Bhavika. The album includes vocals by comedian Navin Prabhakar who sings along with Vinod Rathod and Baba Sehgal. A bonus track has been added with Kunal Ganjawala singing a version of a song originally rendered by Bhupinder Singh.

Sony BMG managing director Shirdhar Subramaniam said, “It’s great to work with PPC again, for the third time now. This is our first collaboration with Madhur Bhandarkar, who had proved to be a film maker of great repute. Traffic Signal is an association that we’re really looking forward to and hoping for it to be a hugely successful venture for all.”
