Amitabh Bachchan Lands In A Mess!

Amitabh Cover PicIt seems like superstar Amitabh Bachchan is unable to catch a break! From individuals with vested interests protesting against his stand to endorse a soft drink, to the latest complaint filed against the Shehenshah of Indian cinema, for allegedly “promoting false beliefs” in an advert, Bachchan has once again landed in a hot mess.

Legendary actor of films like Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila and a score of other blockbusters, Amitabh Bachchan is now facing the heat for a health drink he endorses. For a TV commercial for Complan, Amitabh Bachchan is seen reprising his role of a ghost from his films like Bhootnath and Bhootnath Returns.

In this connection, social activist Hemant Patil has filed a complaint against the legendary senior actor, demanding a police case to be filed against him under Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013.

The reason for the complaint and subsequent request for a police case is that the ad supposedly promotes the “belief in ghosts and the use of magic to ward them off.”

Said Patil’s lawyer, advocate Wajid Pathan, “The food-product company has come out with a 45-second advertisement on the issue without publishing any disclaimer before or after the broadcast.”

The petition also states that Patil moved court because of the Bandra police’s refusal to file a case against Bachchan. The hearing of this case will take place on 18 April, by magistrate Sita Kulkarni.

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK:

Is this a case of mere harassment on the part of Patil, considering the character in Bhootnath has existed for some years now. Or with the sequel nearing release, could this be a mere publicity stunt?
