SPOTTED: Bachchan Family Donate ‘B70’ Proceeds To Charity

The Bachchan family held a press conference at Jalsa, announcing they would donate the entire proceeds from the sale of the art show/ exhibition held on Bachchan patriarch Amitabh’s star-studded 70th birthday party.

MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan has proved time and time again that he not only is one of the finest actors in Bollywood, but he also has one of the largest hearts of gold in town. The 70 year-old actor has once again revealed his humanitarian side to us, by announcing that he and his family are donating Rs. 25 lakhs towards the cause of education for the girl child.

On Saturday, the Bachchan family held a press conference at their home Jalsa, announcing they would donate the entire proceeds from the sale of the art show/ exhibition held on Bachchan patriarch Amitabh’s star-studded 70th birthday party. The exhibition was aptly titled ‘B Seventy’, and the Bachchans have donated the proceeds from the show to Plan India for their girl child campaign. The charity would utilize these funds to improving the quality of education for the girl child.

Amitabh, Abhishek, Jaya and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were all present at the press con; they were all clad in white and were all ecstatic to be contributing to society in such a significant manner. Also present was filmmaker Govind Nihalani, who was proud to be associated with the Bachchan family’s initiative.

Amitabh Bachchan took to his blog to reveal that it was his wife’s idea to donate all the money from the sale of the book: “On my 70th birthday, Jaya along with some gifted friends, decided to bring out a coffee table book, containing paintings from some of the most celebrated painters of the country, 70 in number, on what their interpretation would be of me. The book was titled ‘B70’ and was inaugurated at the birthday celebration on my birthday by my grandson Agastya. Jaya had decided that the proceeds from the sale of the book, would go towards the girl child, their uplift, their education,their presence in society, their dignity …”

He then added further: “A suitable organisation was chosen, Plan India, and it was for them that we held a press conference to present a cheque for 25 lakhs.”
