MUMBAI: After bagging away the Indira Gandhi Award for ‘Best First Film’ for his drama-thriller ‘A Wednesday’ (2008), Bollywood filmmaker Neeraj Pandey is back with another realistic film based on a true story of a heist.

‘Special Chabbis’ starring Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergill and Kajal Aggarwal is based on the real-life daring heist dated 19 March, 1987, where an unknown man posing as a CBI officer Mon Singh recruited 26 men and executed a daylight raid on the Opera House branch of ‘Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri’ and walked away with jewellery worth millions.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar whose last film, Ashish. R Mohan’s ‘Khiladi 786’ received lousy reviews, says that he trusts this project completely. Of course, after Khiladi sequel’s box office debacle, this time the actor will ensure the promotional strategies will be more aggressive and unique.

“Akshay Kumar has consciously stayed away from talking about this film at all. He has kept it under wraps, so that he could do a teaser campaign about raids in various cities of India by a group of CBI officers,” a source revealed.

The 45-year-old actor has trained himself into assuming the role of the 80’s con character. While Manoj Bajpayee who is known for playing off-beat and unconventional roles (remember ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’?)  is playing a cop in the film.

‘Special Chabbis’ is set to release on February 8, 2013.
