“Women First!”, Says Shah Rukh Khan

To bring in some difference, Shah Rukh Khan plans to begin the credit rolls of his upcoming movie 'Chennai Express' with his leading actress' name first.

PANCHGANI: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has joined hands with Tata Tea, to address and rectify the biggest issue facing women today: people’s attitude towards women.

Seen at a press conference was Shah Rukh Khan and Tata Global Beverages’ Regional President Sanjay Sarin.

Looking dapper as usual in a white tee, blue jeans and a black leather jacket, the socially aware star took the pledge to ‘Jaago Re’, which will see SRK in a short film titled ‘Women First’, directed by prolific filmmaker R. Balki.  The initiative comes close on the heels of the mounting incidents of sexual violence and crimes against women in our country.

Addressing the need for people’s mindsets to see a paradigm shift, Shah Rukh said: “For society to change, it is important for all of us to take small actions and bring in the larger change collectively. I have seen thought-provoking ‘Jaago Re’ campaigns in the past and have admired their commitment. Through this association, I am happy to make a statement and express my views to inspire society at large.”

Sanjay Sarin said, “To spread a powerful social message like this one, a personality like Mr. Khan whose views resonate with our philosophy was the best choice.”

To bring in some difference, SRK plans to begin the credit rolls of his upcoming movie ‘Chennai Express’ with his leading actress’ name first. Traditionally, since the era of the great Dilip Kumar,  it has always been the male star, who has been the first one to be credited, followed by the rest of the cast and crew.

“I would like to request to all that the name of heroines should appear first while giving credits. We would start this with Chennai Express. Deepika’s name comes first. She is quite excited about it. I would request others also to do it. I know this will not make a huge difference but may be a change in mindset will happen… I am looking to make a point. Even at award functions the announcement of the best actor is lauded. Why not have actress award in the last. I know this all will not change (anything) but at least a point will be made,” said Shah Rukh.
