MUMBAI: Vivek Oberoi may be elated with the response to his latest venture ‘Grand Masti’ but looks like the actor may well face some trouble from the service tax department.
The service tax department has sent a notice to Vivek Oberoi for evasion of service tax to the tune of Rs 40 Lakh. The actor apparently hasn’t registered himself with the service tax department.
A team by the tax department also had visited the actor’s residence. Since the actor wasn’t present court summons were sent to the actor, and the actor reportedly sent one of his associates to sort the issue.
Deputy commissioner, service tax, Mumbai II, Sameer Wankhede said that the actor registered himself with the service tax department on Wednesday.
Vivek reportedly had sent a message, which read as follows:
“There is no question of evasion of any sort. We Oberois have always taken pride in paying our taxes. I am registered with the department and my CA is doing his job. The date for the payment is 30 September.”
Business Of Cinema tried to contact the actor, but he was unavailable for comment.
