MUMBAI: AR Rahman is on a world tour and has just performed in Canada. And a street has been named after this legendary musician!
The street name reads ‘Allah Rakha Rahman’ and is situated in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Earlier he has also been conferred the tittle of ‘Mozart of Madras’ and ‘Isai Puyal’.
“Welcome to my street in Markham, ON, Canada,” tweeted AR Rahman.
Allah Rakha Rahman‘s original name is AS Dileep Kumar and has come a long way. He was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to a musically affluent Mudaliar Tamil family. His father RK Shekhar, was a film music composer and conductor for Malayalam and Tamil films. Rahman used to assist his father during recordings. He lost his father at the age of nine and his family had to rent out his father’s musical equipment as their source of income.
The legendary music director has won two Academy awards, a BAFTA award, a Golden Globe and two Grammy awards for the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ directed by Danny Boyle.
