Highway and Shaadi Ke Side Effects- where two films that had a huge pre-release buzz. Highway released on February 21, 2104 and Shaadi Ke Side Effects released a week later on February 28, 2104
Highway got a very good response from the critics but then could not garner audience footfall in the theatres. Highway managed to survive at the Box Office in its first week with fair results, but then had a sudden drop in week two. This could be because of two reasons; the films length or due to the release of Shaadi Ke Side Effects.
The drop in Highway collection in week two was in the normal range but a film like this should be sustaining better as its tight release gave it a chance to have a decent run for a few weeks, but the appreciation is missing as the second week figures far below expectations.
Highway has managed to collect about Rs 263 million (26.3 crore) nett till now. The film is co-produced by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Nadiadwala and stars Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda.
Coming to Shaadi Ke Side Effects, that stars Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar, the film has managed to collect about Rs 297 million (29.7 crore) nett till date.
Saket Chowdhary‘s directorial film performed well at the Box Office in first week. The opening weekend total helped the film to sum up a decent first week. Vir Das, who also features in the romantic comedy and is overjoyed with the film’s response.
“Did Shaadi Ke Side Effects to goof around and have a laugh with fun folks. Never ever expected this explosion of kindness. Thank You so much,” he posted on twitter.
Co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Pritish Nandy Communications, Shaadi Ke Side Effects is about the relationship of a young and urban married couple.
This week saw three new releases, Gulaab Gang, Queen and Total Siyapaa, the screen count for both Highway and Shaadi Ke Side Effects will reduce drastically from all the circuits in India.
All said and done, the coming weeks will decide the Box Office fate for both the films.
