Rani Mukerji starrer Mardaani directed by Pradeep Sarkar and Produced by Yash Raj Films and Aditya Chopra has done well at the Indian Box Office in week one. Mardaani has had great word of mouth and Rani Mukerji’s performance also has been appreciated, which has helped the films collections to sustain at the Box Office in week one.
Mardaani managed to collect approximately Rs 245 million (Rs 24.5 crores ) net at the Indian Box Office.
The film had managed to collect approximately Rs 150 million (Rs 15 crores ) net at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend itself .
The film held well on Monday and Tuesday, and while the film was exempted from tax later, the tax free status did not help much in collections as the film had already released and major circuits like Maharashtra and Delhi had still not declared the movie tax free.
The first weekend of release had beat the opening weekend collections of other female lead movies like Kanagana Ranaut starrer Queen which collected Rs 100 million (10 crores) nett at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend.
‘Inspired by true events’ reads a super at the beginning of Pradeep Sarkar’s dramatic thriller that tackles the issue of child trafficking and prostitution. Rani plays Shivani Shivaji Roy, a middle class upright cop in the Mumbai Crime Branch who decides to take on a child trafficker and drug lord after he kidnaps a street child she loved.
