MUMBAI: After signing film co-productions treaties with countries like Germany and Italy; India will now ink a similar treaty with the UK. 

 

FICCI entertainment committee chairman Yash Chopra said, “We will be signing a film co-production treaty with the UK government in the second or third week of May this year.”

 

Individual Indian producers like UTV Motion Pictures, Adlabs Films and Percept Picture Company amongst others have already inked co-productions deals with companies like 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Films, Overbrook Entertainment, Hyperion Pictures, Mel Gibson and Colin Farrell amongst others.

 

Chopra, while speaking at the on-going FICCI FRAMES conference in Mumbai, also urged Indian producers, distributors and exhibitors to work in tandem and bury their personal differences for the benefit of the industry. “A few years back, when we released 200 – 300 prints of a film in India, we thought it was a very big thing. Today, that number has risen to 800 – 900. In less than five years’ time, I see it increasing to as much as 5000 – 6000. However for that to happen producers, distributors and exhibitors have to join hands and forget their egos, short-sightedness and differences and work together. Indian films have great potential so let’s capitalise on that,” he said.
