MUMBAI: Eros International’s Kishore Lulla has been chosen for the Eastern Eye Asian Business Award 2007, for providing Indian cinema an international platform.
The company has been given the BDO Stoy Hayward Business of the Year Award at Eastern Eye Asian Business Awards. Lulla was presented the award by HRH The Duke of York, the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment.
The award ceremony was held at Hilton Park Lane, London, on 8 May 2007 in the presence of eminent invitees and the other award winners from various walks of life.
Lulla is credited with helping Eros evolve from a Bollywood film distribution company into a vertically integrated studio model. The company controls content through production and co-production, long-term output deals with production houses and distributing content globally in all multimedia formats.
“We could not achieve this great success without the unconditional support of my family and the Eros team. But above all I think this award is a tribute to the entire film fraternity who have believed in Eros. I am proud to be a part of the rapidly growing Indian film industry and help showcase it on a global platform,†said Lulla.
Eros International is the first Indian cinema studio with a market share of over 35 per cent and has more than 50 branches across the world.
Recognising the need to have visibility and currency in order to take a lead in the consolidation of the fragmented market, and to further leverage Eros’s dominance in the sector, Lulla decided to take the company public in London and the company was listed on the AIM market in the London Stock Exchange last year. Listed at a price of £1.76, the Eros shares are already trading at over £4 and the company has achieved a market capitalisation of over $ 900 million. This year also marks Eros International’s 30th year in Indian cinema.
