The 68th Annual British Academy Film and Television Arts Awards (BAFTA) took place at the Royal Opera House in London. Indian film The Lunchbox that was nominated for Best Film Not in the English language category lost the prestigious award to Polish film Ida.
Along with Irrfan Khan, the film that also stars Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, was competing with Russian drama film “Leviathan”, Brazilian British adventure thriller drama “Trash” and Belgian film “Two Days, One Night” in the Film Not in the English language category.
Although the film could not bag any awards, The Lunchbox was however was the only Indian film that was nominated in British Academy Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards 2015. The film tells a love story between a young unhappy married woman and an old lonely man. The film released in 2013 in India but hit British screens only in 2014. “The Lunch Box” also won international acclaim and was also screened at Cannes Film Festival in 2013.
American drama Boyhood won the award for the Best Film, and director Richard Linklater won the Best Direction Award. Awards for the Best Actor In Leading Role and Best Actress In Leading Role went to Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore for their roles in the movies The Theory Of Everything and Still Alice respectively.
