In a recent action taken by the Girgaon court, the court has ordered the Tardeo police station in Mumbai to register a first information report (FIR) against the makers and participators of the controversial show AIB Knockout. Included in the list are the AIB team, actors Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and director Karan Johar amongst others.
The order was issued based on a complaint filed by social activist Santosh Daundkar. Advocate Ms. Abha Singh carried out the procedure, after which C.S. Baviskar, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Girgaon Court, issued the order. The accused were NSCI president Jayantilal Shah, secretary-general Ravinder Aggarwal, AIB Roast organisers, film personalities Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhatt, Gursimran Khamba, Ashish Shakya, Aditi Mittal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, flim critic Rajeev Masand amongst other participators.

The sections under which the complaint is registered are shockingly vast covering sections related to criminal conspiracy, speaking vulgar, obscene and pornographic words publicly before a women audience, circulation of obscene, pornographic content on the internet. Other than which the AIB Roast also seems to have violated several rules from the Information Technology Act, 2000, the provisions of Bombay Police Act 1951, the Environment Protect Act, 1986, and Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966.
This FIR came two days after a law professor filed a petition that sought guidelines for a screen mechanism to keep a check on obscene and vulgar videos uploaded on YouTube. The AIB Roast has however filed a plea opposing the petition, stating that the show was for a private audience and for humour purposes only and that the audience had no objection with the same.
AIB’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani stated in the court, “The language was excessive, but within the bounds of humour.” The next hearing will be held on March 3.
