It is Vishal and Shekhar’s turn yet again to bask in the glory of all the praise they have been receiving for the music of Tashan. This, right after Om Shanti Om’s music received an overwhelming response. Well, while one would like to think the music directors have gone all out and have given us an album that is sensational, the truth is that the album is worth buying but not deserving of the
‘sensational’ tag. Here’s the low down on the music of Tashan.
Dil Haara has Sukhwinder Singh crooning to folksy music. But soon enough rock renditions begin and what you end up having is an amalgamation of music that has unharmonious rock and folk sounds. So the tune of this particular track is just about ok. It is more reliant on Singh’s vocal talents and the chorus’s occasional Aahaa that is meant to give you a rush. The track just ends up being crowded with far too many styles.
Falak Tak has Mahalaxmi Iyer and Udit Narayan singing together and How! It’s the kind of song that makes you smile and feel smitten in love. Almost like the JBJ song Bol Na Halke Halke, this one too has a sense of timelessness attached to it. It’s the simplicity and lyrical fineness in the song that is worth appreciating. A cuppa tea, a cabin in the woodlands, you and your love with the song playing in
the backdrop… life couldn’t get any perfect.
Then you have Chhaliya sung by Piyush Mehra and Sunidhi Chauhan. Another ho-hum track, and once you have heard the song you can even begin constructing how it might be choreographed. The only aspect worth commending in the track is the brilliant manner in which two different pieces of music have been fused together. This is the only track in the entire album that gets a wee bit on your nerves due to the moderately high pitch and its repetitive nature.
Move over every other song, Dil Dance Maare if promoted well is the next club anthem. It’s perky, amazingly danceable and filled with energy. Udit Narayan and Sukhwinder Singh’s voices are revitalizing, while Sundihi Chauhan has created magic yet again. It’s kudos and wishes to Vishal, Shekhar and the singers for creating such an inventive track. If this were the only song in the album, it would
still make it worth buying.
Vishal and Saleem rock the song Tashan Mein. It’s filled with a sense of youth appeal especially with words like Tashan mein, Tashan Mein, Tashan Mein that allow your head to go bob. The guitar accompanying the singers on their musical journey adds further energy to the song. Great on all grounds be it lyrics, arrangement or vocals this song is splendid. Don’t be surprised to see teens and their friends driving around in their cars, with this song jarring at a volume that can be heard many blocks away from where you stay.
On the whole the album of Tashan is a must have. It is certainly Vishal and Shekar’s recent best. Hearty congratulations to both of them, its record sales for Tashan’s music.
