MUMBAI: The long weekend has come to an end and the four day collections of the two movies – Raaz – The Mystery Continues and Slumdog Millionaire – have come in!
Raaz – The Mystery Continues has grossed Rs 211.80 million (Rs 21.18 crores) at the box office in India. Sony Pictures Entertainment India, which has distributed the movie in India, is eyeing to close the weekend at Rs 350 million (Rs 35 crores) gross. The overseas collections of the movie are not yet available.
On the other hand, Oscar nominated Slumdog Millionaire and its Hindi dubbed version (Slumdog Crorepati) collections stand at Rs 135 million (Rs 13.5 crores) gross. This is the fourth highest weekend box office for a Hollywood film in India. Across the globe, the film has already grossed Rs 3.60 billion (Rs 360 crores).
Although Slumdog opened small on Friday, the film picked pace on Sunday and Monday and faired very well. However, both Raaz and Slumdog saw a heavy drop on Tuesday.
Cinemax registered footfalls of 80,000 people for Slumdog and 92,000 people for RTMC across all its properties in India. PVR Cinemas registered footfalls of 100,000 people for Slumdog and 130,000 people for RTMC. Fame registered footfalls of 73,052 for Slumdog and 73,654 for RTMC across all its properties.
Slumdog’s English version has received a better viewing response as compared to its Hindi dubbed version.
For all those who are wondering what happened to Chandni Chowk To China in the weekend that just went by, the numbers are not very encouraging, to say the least.
