Film Writer’s Association & Whistling Woods to host screenwriting workshop

MUMBAI: Whistling Woods International (WWI) will host a five day workshop on screenwriting in association with Film Writer’s Association (FWA) from 23 – 27 February.

This workshop is designed for people who have a serious interest in writing scripts – whether professionally or even as a hobby. It is being safely assumed that even if many participants may not have written a full-script yet, they do have stories or story-ideas on which they would like to write scripts.

The instructor of the workshop will be HOD screenwriting Anjum Rajabali who is also the writer of movies such as Ghulam, Drohkaal, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Pukar, etc. along with additional guest sessions by Sriram Raghavan, Jaideep Sahni and Abbas Tyrewala who will present lectures on their professional experience, their method of writing, their individual styles, and of course their struggles within the film industry with words of advice for the participants.

Rajabali said, "This is a compact intensive and fairly substantive introduction to professional screenwriting. It will cover all the basic aspects and elements of screenwriting, including the process and will focus exclusively on feature film screenwriting. It also covers the mythical arc of the hero as found in ancient tales and epics."

Screenwriting is perhaps the most important input into filmmaking. In recent years, all filmmakers have acknowledged that it is the most valuable element of their projects. And yet it is the most neglected too. With such initiatives that try to educate the aspiring or new screenwriter, FWA hopes to improve the quality of writing in Hindi cinema which ought to make a big difference to the quality of films as well in times to come.

The purpose of conducting this workshop is to give the aspiring screenwriters some helpful guidance about the craft of screenwriting and put him/her on the track where he/she can develop his talent further. The primary medium of instruction will be English and the participants will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop.

The fee for the workshop is Rs 2500 for the five days.
