MUMBAI: Yesteryear actress Jayaprada will soon make a comeback on the silver screen in a Bengali film titled Sesh Sangat.
She is not only acting in the film, but is also producing it. This is her first shot at movie production and also as an actress in Bengali films. According to sources close to the development, Reliance Big Pictures is all set to acquire this film for Rs 15 million (Rs 1.50 crores).
When contacted by Businessofcinema.com for a confirmation, Reliance Entertainment president Rajesh Sawhney said, "No comments please."
On the other hand, Reliance Big Pictures COO Mahesh Ramanathan denied the development saying, "It’s not true at all. It does not make sense for us to acquire a Bengali film since we already have three of our own Bengali productions in the pipeline."
However, if sources are to be believed, the negotiations between the concerned parties are in the final stages now and the deal will be locked and sealed sometime soon.
Sesh Sangat will mark Reliance’s first acquisition in the regional films’ space. This film has been shot in Hyderabad and Kolkata. It also stars Jackie Shroff, Chiranjeet, Soma Mukherjee, Santu Mukherjee, Abhishek Chatterjee, Ashish Vidyarthi amongst others.
Apart from this, the other three films that Reliance has in its kitty are – Shob Choritra Kalponik, Abohomann and Janala. While Shob Choritra Kalponik and Abohomann are being directed by Rituparno Ghosh, Janala will be directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta.
