MUMBAI: The 3D version of Dream Works Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens, which was released in India by Paramount Films of India on 17 April, has contributed 53 per cent of its total box office collections across theatres.
The 3D version of the movie was released across 10 screens in digital 3D format across India, whereas in other 67 screens it was released in the 2D format. The movie has collected Rs 15.4 million (Rs 1.54 crores) at the box office, out of which 53 per cent of collection has been contributed by the 3D version. The IMAX 3D version of the movie will be released in May in select cities.
Paramount Films of India general manager Sarabjit Singh said, "The 3D version of Monsters vs. Aliens is well-liked by audiences. Watching the film in 3D has its own thrill and charm which cannot be compared to a 2D film therefore audiences will always prefer a 3D film. The encouraging results of the 3D format will motivate other exhibitors to convert their screens to 3D format."
Monsters vs. Aliens is Dream Works Animation’s first InTru 3D movie, wholly conceived, developed and authored in 3D. It has voices of Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Kiefer Sutherland, Rainn Wilson, Paul Rudd and Stephen Colbert. The film is directed by Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon.
