MUMBAI: 20th Century Fox’s Indian movie arm Fox Star Studios has signed Tamil film director AR Murgadoss for a two film deal. With this move, the company has now forayed into the Tamil film industry.
Murgadoss has to his credit one of the biggest blockbusters of Hindi cinema – Ghajini, which was released last year with Aamir Khan in the lead. Incidentally, Ghajini was the first Hindi language film that he directed.
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Fox Star Studios India CEO Vijay Singh says, "Once we had made some in-roads into the Hindi film industry, the logical step was to look at the Tamil market. AR Murgadoss was the perfect choice for us as he has an impeccable track record and has a good understanding of the national as well as Tamil pulse."
Singh informed that the two Tamil movies will be script-driven and will have well-known as well as new actors.
Murugadoss adds, "I am excited to work with Fox Star Studios India. It gives me a chance to use my deep association with the Tamil film industry to tell exciting new stories with our established stars and also to promote new talent. This partnership will also bring to Tamil cinema learning from the best technical and creative people from around the world."
Last year, Fox Star Studios signed a deal with producer – director Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Blockbuster Films, under which the two will co-produce two Hindi language films. While one will be a rom-com, the other will be a visual effects-driven fantasy action movie.
