MUMBAI: The party poopers can say what they like. Abhishek Bachchan and Rohan Sippy are going to be working together again! The proposed project is again an edgy out-of-the-box experiment with truth extending the language that this actor-director invented in Bluffmaster and Dum Maaro Dum (DMD).
Moreover, the Sippys are also planning a big bash for DMD. Contrary to the cynicism about the film’s box office performance, it has generated enough revenues to make the producers happy. Sippy wants to celebrate with his buddy Abhishek Bachchan. They are now planning a party for which Abhishek will fly down from Russia to Mumbai for just one evening. Bachchan is currently in Russia shooting for Abbas Mustan’s Players, which is an official remake of The Italian Job. Yup, the effort of traveling across continents is well worth making.
The DMD team is eminently upbeat about the box office so much so that the Sippy and Bachchan are planning to start another film together.
According to DMD’s co-producers Fox Star Studios India, the movie has got the biggest opening in South India for any Hindi film in 2011. DMD is also the third biggest Abhishek Bachchan film ever after Dhoom:2 and Dostana.
Says Rohan, “Neither Abhishek nor Bipasha is here in Mumbai. Without them we can’t celebrate. They’re the life and soul of our party. We’re definitely very happy. The box office figures are very different from what some spoilsports have tried to spread through various abused forms of communication… a lot of the people questioning the content and box office performance of DMD are frustrated writers and out-of-work members of the film fraternity.”
Now Sippy is looking at seeing DMD sustain its box office figures.
“We’ve a clear month ahead with no major competition at the box office during the IPL season. That is exactly why we waited so long to release. So we could avail of the vacant slab during the IPL season,” Sippy adds.
