Years ago the only filmmaker who dared to bring the two warring divas Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit together was Ramesh Sippy.
He cast them together in Zameen. But the film got shelved. That was the end of all endeavor to bring the two screen queens into the same line of vision.
Now on Tuesday afternoon the two divas finally came together on the dance reality-show ‘Jhalak Dhikhhla Jaa’.
One doesn’t know how historic the audience would consider this belated union of the two hottest star-actresses from the 1990s.
Sridevi and Madhuri were both adamant on outdoing one another in who would appear happier in the other’s company.
“As soon as the camera was switched on, they behaved like long-lost ‘shells’, giggling whispering to one another, admiring each other’s clothes and jewellery, much to the amusement of Karan Johar who is also a judge on the show,” says the eyewitness from the ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ set.
Sridevi’s cold-war with Madhuri dates back to the time when both were vying for the No.1 spot at the Box Office. With the two hits Mr India and Chandni, Sridevi had a marked edge over her rival.
No filmmaker succeeded in bringing them together.
The highpoint on ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ was when the two ladies took the floor to dance to one another’s songs.
Says our eyewitness, “Sridevi danced to Madhuri’s Dhak dhak and Madhuri danced to Sridevi’s Mere haathon mein nau-nau chudiyan. Madhuri’s fellow-judges Karan Johar and Remo d’Souza seemed quite taken up with Sridevi’s presence. They even showered rose petals on Sridevi.”
