MUMBAI: There seems to be a very strange jinx on Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif’s attempts to work on Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Though Karan Johar adores Katrina and the two of them often go out in a group that also includes director Ayaan Mukerjee and Boney & Mona Kapoor’s son Arjun Kapoor, when it comes to working together Katrina and Johar’s Dharma Productions just don’t seem to see eye to eye.
Not that they aren’t keen to work together. Oh yes, they are!
Katrina was all set to star opposite Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham in the sequel to ‘Dostana’. Then the unexpected happened. ‘Dostana’ director Tarun Mansukhani couldn’t come up with a sparkling enough script for a sequel. Katrina’s dates got squandered several times over while the ‘Dostana’ team waited for a script to continue the saga of two straight men pretending to be gay. Ha ha.
Now again Katrina has had to regretfully back out of another Dharma project.
The Ayaan Mukerjee film ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Diwani’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor had Katrina’s name embedded on it. Deepika was a very distant but very insistent standby. Unfortunately for Katrina and fortunately for Deepika the dates and other issues got in the way. Katrina couldn’t do Ayaan’s film.
Says a source, “Till the last moment every effort was made to get Katrina into the Ayaan project. But it just didn’t work out.”
In 2012 Katrina sizzled in an item song for Karan Johar’s production ‘Agneepath’. ‘Chikni chameli’ was done in the hope of a full-fledged lead in a Dharma film.
No such luck yet.
