MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Imran Khan and his ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ co-star Anushka Sharma were recently spotted by our shutterbugs employing a very unique promotional strategy for their upcoming film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.

The duo were seen sticking posters of their film on the doors and back of cabs plying in Mumbai city with a view to reach out to more people. Imran, inspired on many counts by his superstar uncle Aamir Khan, has a sense of Deja-vu talking about it.

“Many years ago, 24 years ago, when ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat’ was releasing, Aamir Mamu himself pasted posters on auto rickshaws. I remember him telling me the story. He (Aamir), Mansoor Mamu and my mom roamed around in the by-lanes of Bandra. Aamir Mamu requested rickshaw drivers, ‘I’m the hero of the movie, can I stick a poster on your auto?’ Flash forward 24 years and I find myself doing the same thing!” exclaims the actor, who plays Matru – the law graduate who is working as a man friday in ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’.

This is not the first unique promotional startegy Imran and Anushka have employed. Imran recently walked a rally with his latest item girl ‘Gulabo’. With Anushka he also played RJ on two Radio channels, and visited the sets of reality singing show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’.

Talking about the latest marketing gig, Imran says,”In our city public transport is the most important thing. It’s the lifeline of our city and it’s the best possible way to reach out to the people.”

Agrees Anushka, “Its great way of letting people know that the film is around. Good way of catching eyeballs. We would love to have our poster on every car of Mumbai.”

‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ releasing on 11 January, 2013 will also feature Pankaj Kapur.
