MUMBAI: Boys will be boys, and will do anything for their speed machine toys. The adage proved true at the ‘The Bloomberg TV Autocar India Awards 2013’ ceremony last night, which saw India’s most loved cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood hunk Arjun Rampal in attendance.
Rajya Sabha MP and renowned cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Rampal of ‘Ra.One’ and ‘Raajneeti’ fame were the guests of honour at the ‘The Bloomberg TV Autocar India Awards 2013’. And like most boys, they were excited to be speaking about the fast cars and bikes which won awards. Also on the chief guest list was Mr. Suresh P. Prabhu, Former Union Minister of Power.
The awards night was hosted by Mini Menon, Executive Editor – Bloomberg TV India and Renuka Kirpalani, Editor – The Autocar India Show, which airs on India’s premier business news channel Bloomberg TV India. A total of 21 awards were given away across two and four wheeler segments, including Car of the Year (Jury’s Choice), ‘Viewers Choice Car of the Year’ and ‘SUV of the Year’ Awards to Renault Duster.
Arjun Rampal graced the occasion in the same attire he repeated later that night to best freind Hrithik Roshan’s yacht party: a pair of slinky grey trousers, a white shirt, a black tie and a cashmere black sweater on top. We loved his sophistication and style, as he took to the stage and spoke about his fondest car memories. Arjun will be seen next in Sudhir Mishra’s film ‘Inkaar’ opposite Chitrangada Singh.
In contrast, the ‘Little Master’ Sachin Tendulkar wore a sharp navy blue suit and tie, befitting the formal nature of the glittering awards night. He was accompanied by his lovely wife Anjali. We also spotted ace Formula 1 race car driver Narain Karthikeyan, who also served as a panelist on the jury, to choose the winners for the night.
Other panelists included Hormazd Sorabjee (Editor – Autocar India); Renuka Kirpalani (Editor – Autocar India show); Kartikeya Singhee (Consultant Editor – Autocar India Show); Manvendra Singh (India’s leading Automotive Historian & Restorer) and Rishad Cooper (Two Wheeler Editor – Autocar India).
