Celebrating ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ Icon Madhubala’s 79th Birth Anniversary

MUMBAI: Bollywood’s iconic beauty and yesteryear actress Madhubala’s 79th birth anniversary saw a grand mural being dedicated to her.

The actress and heroine of films like ‘Mahal’ and ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ was honoured by a tribute from artist Ranjit Dahiya from the Bollywood Art Project or BAP. The artist had created a 24 ft mural resembling the iconic star as a tribute to the legendary actress and cinematic idol. The mural was unveiled on the anniversary of her birth: 14th February.

We spotted Dahiya providing finishing touches to a splendid painting, which saw Salim and his Anarkali looking fondly at each other. The bottom of the painting read ‘Anarkali’, which served as a fitting tribute to the most beautiful actress seen on celluloid. Her career spanned a period of 18 years, during which Mumtaz Jehan Dehlavi showed us that her grace and beauty and sheer poise was unparalleled, and could never be replicated.

Did you know: The graceful, ethereal star was born on 14th February 1933, and made her Bollywood debut in a film called ‘Basant’ in 1942, at the tender young age of 9. The film went on to become a blockbuster and cemented Madhubala’s position as a top heroine. Her most memorable film is most certainly K Asif’s epic saga of love and longing in the Mughal times: ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. She also acted in ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi’ and ‘Mahal’, which further made her a classic beauty; one whose popularity was unrivalled in Hindi cinema.

The iconic legend passed away after developing an incurable heart affliction in 1969. She was only 36 years old.
