MUMBAI: Prakash Jha will be using Mahatma Gandhi’s song ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ in his upcoming film ‘Satyagraha’. The song will feature the lead character, which is portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan.
The director, who is currently shooting for the film confirmed the news, “Yes, we have the song Raghupati Raghav in the film. It comes at a very crucial juncture in Satyagrah, in the life of the character that Amitabh Bachchan is playing.”
A source working closely with Jha, further revealed: “Prakash ji is using the iconic ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ song in Satyagraha. It will be featured on Amitabh Bachchan who plays a role that has been inspired by Anna Hazare.”
“Anna Hazare is a Gandhian and ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ was one of the Gandhi’s favourite bhajans (songs). He even sang the song to his followers during the famous ‘Dandi March’. Therefore, it is only fitting that the song be used in the film” the source further added.
It is well known by now that Amitabh Bachchan’s character in ‘Satyagrah’ is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. Therefore, the song will predominantly focus on Amitabh Bachchan’s character. The word around is that the story of the film is based on Anna Hazare’s life events. How much of the story is based of facts and how much of it is fictional remains to be seen.
‘Satyagrah’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpayee, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Amrita Rao is written by Anjum Rajabali, Sagar Pandya and K.V. Anand. The film, Directed and Produced by Prakash Jha, is in shooting right now and is slated to release on 23 August 2013.
