MUMBAI: Dharma Productions’ ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, directed by Ayan Mukherjee and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin has witnessed a record-breaking opening weekend.
Day 3, Sunday proved to be mammoth, with collections in the range of Rs 224.8 million (Rs 22.48 crore) net.
As reported, Day 1 and Day 2 were a bumper opening for ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, with the film doing a business of approximately Rs 197.5 million (19.75 crore) on Day 1, and Rs 202.3 million (Rs 20.23 crore) on Day 2.
The three day total of ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ is in the range of Rs 624.6 million (Rs 62.46 crore), an astounding opening figure.
In comparison, the last three super hit films of the Khan triumvirate (first four days) were: Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’- Rs 780 million (Rs 78 crore) net, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’- Rs 600 million (R 60 crore) net, and Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash’, which made Rs 505 million (Rs 50.5 crore net).
Also noteworthy is the fact that this is Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest solo opening so far, and is well into entrenching him firmly as a superstar in his own right, as far as box office collections are concerned.
