MUMBAI: The makers of ‘Madras Café’ insist that their film is purely a work of fiction and does not take sides nor calls anyone a terrorist. But Tamil groups are not willing to give up these claims.
A still from the film shows actor Ajay Ratnam (see pic) who plays the character of Anna resembling the late LTTE (Liberation Tigers Of Tamil Eelam) leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. The uniform and the attire quite resemble Prabhakaran.
Madras Café is a story set in Sri Lanka and talks about the civil war during the 90’s. When director Shoojit Sircar was questioned on Anna’s character bearing a resemblance to the leader he simply said, “The film is purely a work of fiction and request all not to speculate.”
‘Madras Café’ is being dubbed in Tamil as the story has a tamilian backdrop. But Naam Tamizhar group continues protests and allege that the film portrays LTTE in bad light.
While Shoojit Sircar received huge acclaim for ‘Vicky Donor’, looks like he is certainly having a tough time with ‘Madras Café’.
‘Madras Café’ starring John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri will hot theatres on 23 August.
