BOX OFFICE: Slight Slowdown For SRK-Starrer ‘Chennai Express’

Although Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chennai Express’ crossed the Rs 1.5 billion mark within its first 7 days, it looks like the film has slowed down, if ever so slightly, since the release of ‘Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobara’.

MUMBAI: Although Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chennai Express’ crossed the Rs 1.5 billion mark within its first 7 days, it looks like the film has slowed down, if ever so slightly, since the release of ‘Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobara’.

Directed by Rohit Shetty, produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Red Chillies Entertainment, ‘Chennai Express’ witnessed a drop in collections for the very first time, since its release last Friday, 9 August, 2013.

Friday’s collections were in the range of approximately Rs 58.6 million (Rs. 5.86 crore) net, a sharp decline from Wednesday and Thursday’s figures of Rs 123.9 million (Rs 12.39 crore) net and Rs 192.8 million (Rs 19.28 crore) net respectively.

As reported, ‘Chennai Express’ opened with massive record-breaking figures of around Rs 330 million (Rs 33 crore) net on its very first day, 9 August 2013. Saturday and Sunday’s figures too were a whopping Rs 280 million (Rs 28 crore) net and Rs 325 million (Rs 32.5 crore) net respectively. Including paid previews, the film had already crossed the Rs 1 billion (Rs 100 crore) mark by the opening weekend.

Monday and Tuesday’s collections were equally impressive at approximately Rs 124.1 million (Rs 12.41 crore) net and Rs 113.6 million (Rs 11.36 crore) net respectively.

Nonetheless, the 8-day total for ‘Chennai Express’ stands at a whopping Rs 1548 million (Rs 154.8 crore). Including paid previews, this figure shoots up to approx Rs 1615.5 million (Rs 161.55 crore) net
