3 Idiots shatters Ghajini’s opening day collections record with Rs 125 million net

MUMBAI: Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots has shattered the opening day box office collections records of all time with net of Rs 125 million (Rs 12.50 crore) in India on Friday.

The paid preview and Friday collections of 3 Idiots now add upto Rs 152.10 million (Rs 15.21 crore) in India.

These are the early industry estimates compiled by Businessofcinema.com by Saturday noon. However, the exact numbers will be available by early evening.

The previous record holder for opening day collections was Ghajini, which did a net business of Rs 90 million (Rs 9 crore) on Friday in India. This is followed by Love Aaj Kal (Rs 80 million), Kambakkht Ishq (Rs 75 million) and Singh Is Kinng (Rs 72 million).

The movie, which has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani is scaling new heights at the box office. 

As was first reported by Businessofcinema.com, the paid previews of the movie on Thursday brought in net collections of Rs 27.10 million (Rs 2.71 crore) in India, which is also the highest ever. The paid preview collections of Ghajini were Rs 16 million (Rs 1.60 crore) net.
