MUMBAI: The discussions that unfolded between Eros and national multiplex chains found no solution until wee hours of Thursday mid-night and unfortunately this resulted in Aa Dekhen Zara not playing in any multiplex or single screen cinema belonging to Big Cinemas, Cinemax, Fame Cinemas, Fun Cinemas, Inox Leisure, PVR Cinemas and Movietime.
A few weeks back, all Hindi producers associations announced that they have stalled the release of their movies from 4 April onwards, unless they are given flat 50 percent revenue share for all their movies. To this, the multiplex unexpectedly retaliated and set a prerequisite that Eros fix and sign the revenue share terms for its forthcoming films namely Kambakkth Ishq and Love Aaj Kal, failing which Aa Dekhen Zara will not be played.
If Eros would give in, it would break the unity of producers and distributors. Businessofcinema.com has learnt from reliable industry sources that the multiplexes even wooed Eros into signing Kambakkth Ishq and Love Aaj Kal by offering them Ghajini terms of 50:50, 42½:57½ and 32½:67½. However, Eros didn’t budge and maintained the producers’ unity.
Now rumors are rife that Percept Picture Company’s 8×10 – Tasveer, which is due for release on 3 April may be the next in line to face the wrath.
So far, while the producers and distributors have remained united on one side, the multiplexes too are standing their ground and have maintained their unity. It remains to be seen for how long the two parties hold on to this unity, especially at a time when both parties are lobbying hard to lure a player from the opposite group.
