Mallika Sherawat might be an international icon, but she surely seems to have forgotten her roots. The actor made some sweeping statements at the 66th Cannes Film Festival about Indian women being regressive in nature and she was quick to get wrath from Priyanka Chopra.

MUMBAI: Mallika Sherawat may apparently be an international icon and have appeared in a few international duds. She also might have impressed foreigners with her “American” accent, but the actor however, received wrath from former Miss World and actress Priyanka Chopra when she made some sweeping statements at the 66th Cannes Film Festival.

Mallika Sherawat, who has acted in a few international films like Jackie Chan’s ‘The Myth’, Jennifer Lynch’s ‘Hisss’ and William Dear’s ‘Politics Of Love’, which has yet not released in India, made statements about Indian women being regressive and calling India a hypocritical society.

This irked actress and former Miss World Priyanka Chopra so much, that the actor lambasted at Mallika Sherawat , at an mobile application launch event for the UNICEF. Priyanka Chopra has been a goodwill ambassador for the UNICEF since 2010, and it really shocked the actor, when Mallika Sherawat made such sweeping statements.

“I think we are a progressive nation. We are all sitting here and discussing how to take the country forward and it is extreme misrepresentation of our nation. I don’t think it is fair. Mallika’s statements have been callous and I don’t agree with her”, said Priyanka Chopra.

Mallika Sherawat, divides her time between Los Angeles, America and India. The actor also has expressed her displeasure living in India. In an interview to Variety, she was quoted saying, “When I experience social freedom in America, and head to India, I find it regressive towards women. It’s really depressing to see that as an independent woman.”

Well Mallika Sherawat, you surely have grabbed eyeballs and ears for those sweeping statements. But we guess, it’s time to head back to your roots.
