Mumbai: Indian cricketer Anil Kumble announced his retirement from test cricket on 2 November after the third test against Australia, citing his recent injuries as the reason.
While Kumble’s retirement was witnessed by one and all, Pritish Nandy Communications’ (PNC) Meerabai Not Out, which stars the cricketer along with Mandira Bedi and Eijaz Khan, is nowhere in the news.
Directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni, Meerabai Not Out was announced in 2006. In the film Kumble plays himself, while Meera is essayed by Bedi (a cricket buff obsessed with Kumble).
Earlier this year in April, DQ Entertainment and Sony Pictures India came on board as co-producer and distribution partner respectively. But there was no movement on the project thereafter.
The film was earlier slated to release in September 2008. But trade sources inform that the film is now being readied for release on 28 November or 5 December.
Sony Pictures India managing director Kercy Daruwala says, "Anil Kumble’s retirement has nothing to do with the release of Meerabai Not Out. Kumble is playing a cameo role in the film. We may release the movie on 28 November or 5 December depending on the viability."
PNC chairman Pritish Nandy remained unavailable for comment.
