MUMBAI: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s dream project, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ has been under a lot of speculation for about 14 years now. Bhansali first spoke about making ‘Bajirao Mastani’ in 1999 while working with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai on ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’.
In these last 14 years, the director has nursed the dream of making this epic love story and since then the film has been under continuous speculation. The first choice for the film was Aishwarya Rai as Mastani, Salman Khan as Bajirao and Rani Mukherjee as Kashibai.
But after the infamous Salman-Aishwarya split, the film has been under a stand-still. Over the years the film has been surrounded by a lot of rumours. For instance, it was said that Salman Khan was replaced by Ajay Devgn with the leading ladies remained the same. Another rumour had suggested that Aishwarya was to be replaced by Kareena Kapoor.
The latest buzz on the subject is that Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone are in advanced stages of talk with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali. If sources are to be believed Deepika Padukone will play Mastani, and Katrina Kaif will play Kashibai. The word around is that the actresses are quite excited and have shown a lot of interest in doing the film. However, the male lead is yet to be confirmed. Here too, reports suggest that Ranbir Kapoor is being considered for the role.
Looks like Sanjay Leela’s Bhansali’s dream project will finally take off.
As far as the star cast, we wonder if Katrina Kaif will be better suited to Mastani and Deepika to Kashibai… As for the leading man, Ranbir Kapoor fits just right. What do you think?
